Consultation & Community Engagement

Cleveland Police Authority undertakes a wide range of consultation activities to obtain the views of the people of Cleveland on policing, crime and anti-social behaviour issues.

This ranges from a large scale telephone survey to public meetings and focused work with local communities. Our programme of consultation aims to reach all sectors of our communities, including 'hard to reach' groups and young people. All of the work which is undertaken is reported in the end of year consultation report which is used, together with strategic assessments, national priorities and crime and anti-social behaviour data to influence the policing priorities for the forthcoming year.

Our joint Consultation Strategy sets out the framework for how Cleveland Police and Cleveland Police Authority will undertake public consultation.

During 2009 you told us that anti social behaviour remains your number one concern. In particular vandalism, deliberate damage, people using or dealing drugs and rowdy/nuisance behaviour. Therefore we have developed two key priorities to address these areas:

  • Reduce crime, anti social behaviour and protect neighbourhoods
  • Reduce the harm caused to communities by drugs and alcohol

The Home Office have introduced a new single target for the police which focuses on increasing the public’s confidence that their police and local council are dealing with crime and anti-social behaviour issues that matter locally.  This is measured through the British Crime Survey, and Cleveland has consistently been in the top three police forces in the country.
