In 2011, Cleveland Police Authority announced its proposal to relocate the Police Headquarters from their current site at Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough, which was previously British Steel Laboratories (shown in the pictures opposite).
After examining a number of potential sites over recent years, the Authority and Force have earmarked Hemlington Grange in Middlesbrough as the best option and, if the plans go ahead, the new building could be ready for use by 2013.
A report on the plans was considered by Police Authority on Wednesday 10 November and a programme of consultation was conducted with local people in the Ladgate Lane and Hemlington Grange areas, Local Councillors and staff around that time.
The key to making the move will be gaining planning permission for part of the current Police Headquarters site at Ladgate Lane to be used for housing and then its sale.
