Youngsters in Hartlepool have been finding out what they need to do if they come across an incident and have to call the police as part of an initiative backed by Cleveland Police Authority.
The Authority joined with other agencies to stage this year’s ‘Crucial Crew’ programme involving a range of scenarios all aimed at showing children how to become aware of their personal safety and how to react in a range of situations.

How to call for help—youngsters taking part in Crucial Crew find out what they should do if they come across an accident in this scenario involving a cyclist in trouble.
Explains the Authority’s Consultation and Performance Officer Sarah Wilson “We were delighted to play a part in the Crucial Crew event which was open to all Hartlepool Primary Schools and aimed specifically at Year 6 pupils.
“Our contribution included showing the youngsters how to make both 999 calls and non-urgent calls to the police…and we also took the opportunity to ask the children about their views on crime and anti-social behaviour issues in their area, which will feed into our overall consultation programme.”
Other agencies involved in the two-week event included Hartlepool Borough Council, the police, fire and coastguard services and electricity suppliers.
