29.11.10 Headquarters Move Event Postponed

The wintry weather has forced the postponement of a Cleveland Police Authority event, due to be held today, to discuss the possible development of a new Police Headquarters at Hemlington Grange.

The event was to take place at the Hemlington Lake and Recreation Centre today from 10am until 8.00pm but Authority Acting Chief Executive, Julie Leng, said it would obviously be difficult for many people to attend so they would be making arrangements for an alternative date. (Note: This will now be held on Monday 13 December from 10.00am - 8.00pm at Hemlington Initiative Centre)

She explained “Today's event was part of our public consultation plan for the  possibility of relocating the Force Headquarters from the current Ladgate Lane site to Hemlington Grange. Obviously we want to give as many people as possible the chance to take part, but clearly the adverse weather would be likely to greatly reduce the numbers who might attend.

“We apologise for any inconvenience the postponement might cause, but I’m sure people will recognise it is primarily a question of public safety—and we will be reorganising the event in the near future.”

In addition the Authority says that, in view of the likelihood that the adverse weather conditions will continue for some time, it has been decided to postpone the Stakeholder Event to discuss the development of policing services in the area.

This had been scheduled to take place at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough on Wednesday, but is now likely to be rearranged for early in the New Year.
