People in the Hemlington area will have the chance to find out more about plans for building a new headquarters for Cleveland Police Authority at a consultation event being held next Monday (December 13th).
The event, being held at the Hemlington Initiative Centre, is part of Cleveland Police Authority’s consultation programme for the proposals which could see the Force headquarters relocated from its present site in Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough, to a new building at Hemlington Grange.
The event was originally planned for last week but had to be postponed because of the severe weather.
The proposals also involve seeking planning permission for part of the Ladgate Lane site to be used for housing—with the proceeds of the sale of Ladgate Lane funding the costs of acquiring the site at Hemlington Grange and constructing the new building.
Originally built as a laboratory for British Steel, the Ladgate Lane building has served as the police headquarters around 30 years but is now seen as not suitable for modern requirements—it is expensive to maintain and run, is too big for current needs and lacks the infrastructure for modern requirements.
Middlesbrough Council has identified Hemlington Grange for mixed use development, including residential and employment. The proposed new headquarters, covering approximately 5,000 square metres, would provide improved working conditions and facilities as well as delivering significant savings in operating costs.
Monday’s event will take place between 10.00am and 8.00pm. In addition there is an opportunity to find out more about the proposals on the Authority website, www.clevelandpa.org.uk, make a comment via an online questionnaire, by contacting the Authority on authorityconsultation@cleveland.pnn.police.uk, by telephone on 01642 301467 or by mail to Cleveland Police Authority, FREEPOST NEA3839, Middlesbrough TS8 9BR.
