25.07.11 Policing Plan Gets the Youth Treatment

Young people from across Cleveland will be coming together this week to take part in a project aimed at aimed raising awareness on how policing is delivered in the area.

Members of the Cleveland Police Cadets scheme will join with youngsters from a range of organisations to work on preparation of  specially ‘youth proofed’ versions of the annual policing plan which explain how the police service works as well as providing information including details of the neighbourhood police officers covering local schools and colleges.

The project is being held at the Acklam Green Centre from Monday to Thursday this week and will begin with Neighbourhood Police teams working with the youngsters on team building activities.

This is the fifth year that the project, a joint initiative between Cleveland Police Authority and the Just4Youth social enterprise organisation, has produced versions of the policing plan—one for each of the four force districts— specially tailored to interest young people.

Says Just4Youth co-ordinator Abigail Fields “We are privileged to run this programme for a fifth year in conjunction with Cleveland Police Authority.  The programme breaks down barriers between young people and services and presents an opportunity to develop unique youth proofed policing plans for the Cleveland area. It also gives young people the opportunity to gain an ASDAN skills qualification and put fun into learning”.
