17.11.10 Survey Proves a Winner for Reece

Reece Dunn is set for plenty of cinema viewing after winning a competition aimed at giving young people the chance to express their opinions on policing.

Reece, a Year 8 pupil at Trinity Catholic College in Middlesbrough, was amongst almost 5,000 young people who completed a survey which formed part of the specially produced ‘youth proofed’ versions of this year’s Annual Policing Plan. All the surveys went into a draw - and Reece was the lucky winner.

He was presented with his prize of a £100 worth of vouchers for the UGC cinema in Middlesbrough, at a special assembly at the school.

The ‘youth proofed’ versions of the annual policing plan have been produced thanks to a joint initiative between Cleveland Police Authority and the Just4Youth young person-led social enterprise, owned by West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust.

This is the fourth year that a team of young people have taken the Policing Plan and produced versions - one for each of the four force districts - explaining how the police service works and providing a range of information, including details of the Neighbourhood Policing Officers covering local schools and colleges.

This year there is also the chance for young people take part in an art competition on the theme of ‘Keeping People Safe @ Christmas’ and enter the prize draw by giving their opinions on what crimes concern them most and how they think anti-social behaviour should be tackled.

This time there was a very high response to the survey, well ahead of previous years.
