15.07.10 Taking to the Road and Listening to the Public

‘Your Police—Your Voice’ is the theme of a series of roadshows being held by Cleveland Police Authority this summer, aimed at giving members of the public the chance to give their views on how our local police service is performing—and how it should develop in the future.

The first event, staged at the Stockton Ridewell event, asked people what they thought of the services currently provided…and how savings could be made as the Authority and Force face spending cuts over the next few years which could be as high as 25 per cent. Those with particularly interesting ideas were invited to be interviewed in the mobile ‘Voice Box’ vehicle.

Says Authority Chair Councillor Dave McLuckie “We were pleased that by and large the 150 members of the public we questioned thought police services were good and, when asked, how they thought cuts could be made backed ideas such as reducing paperwork for officers and making savings on ‘back office’ activities—both issues we are already tackling.

“We hope that this initiative will provide us with valuable feedback on the public’s views and it is another example of our commitment to Putting People First and providing services which genuinely reflect the needs and concerns of our local communities.”

The ‘Your Police-Your Voice’ roadshow will be at the Middlesbrough Mela this coming weekend where members of the public will be given imitation ‘money’ to invest into the various aspects of policing they think should be given priority, and will also be at the Cleveland Show on Saturday, July 24th.
