Local Authorities

Cleveland Police is the most important partner of Cleveland Police Authority. The Authority is responsible for checking the level of service provided by its police service through its Panels and ensuring the force delivers on the priorities, such as reducing crime and the fear of crime in the Cleveland area.
The Police Authority works closely with the Chief Constable to decide how the force uses the money provided by the Government and decide what is best for Teesside communities.

Steria is the strategic partner of Cleveland Police Authority for delivery of the Force’s Control Room, Community Justice and back-office functions through a shared service partnership that will deliver £50 million in cashable savings.
The shared services contract, worth £175 million over 10 years, commenced on 1st October 2010, to benefit the Force’s 2,200 employees and local community. Under the partnership agreement, Steria works with the Force and Authority in delivering key services including Call Handling, Support for the Preparation of Criminal Case Files, Risk and Emergency Planning and Shared Business Services.

In 2006, Reliance became the strategic partner of Cleveland Police Authority responsible for facilities management in four Cleveland Police district offices - Middlesbrough Headquarters (Middlehaven); Redcar & Cleveland Headquarters (Kirkleatham); Redcar Police Office and South Bank Police Office.
In October 2008, the services of Custody Management, Forensic Medical Examination , ID Suite Management and Bail Management were transferred to Reliance to provide on behalf of Cleveland Police.
In October 2011, Reliance became responsible for the complete Cleveland Police estates management service, transferring ownership of this area from Steria.

The Association of Police Authorities (APA) is a national body which represents all police authorities in England and Wales. The APA protects and promotes the interest of member authorities, providse a forum for discussion through regular meetings and themed panels and makes a contribution to improvements to the police service.
Cleveland Police Authority currently represents the North East region (which includes Durham Constabulary and Northumbria Police) on the Strategic Policing Policy Network and the People Policy National Network and will attend the APA Board on behalf of North East forces from July 2010.

Cleveland Crimestoppers is a charity and is independent of the police and the government.
The Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111, lets people tell the police about crime without having to leave their name or other details.

The four districts of Cleveland have their own Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships. These partnerships have a legal duty to work with other local agencies and organisations to tackle crime and disorder, including anti-social behaviour. Cleveland Police Authority is one of the six statutory authorities that have a duty to play a role on CDRPs. The responsible authorities are:

These authorities are required to work in co-operation with other boards, parish councils, NHS Trusts, agencies and organisations. The four CDRPs in the Cleveland area are:

Local Authorities are important partners of Cleveland Police Authority. Nine Police Authority Members are elected councillors from the four local authorities in Cleveland.
The Police Authority works together with the local councils through the CDRPs (see above) and in other ways, for example, we consult with Local Authorities when deciding how much people should pay for policing through Council Tax.
